About our Produce
How well do you know your farmers?
We produce our Egganic pasture eggs and meat chickens on our farms. We deal with small producers for our other meat products and have visited the farms and seen first hand how the farmers animals are treated and what they are fed. We will only stock products that meet our humane standards. Click here to learn more about our farmers and their produce.
Do you sell any grain-fed meat?
No! All of our meat is grass fed and finished. Click here to learn more about our farmers and their produce.
What about chicken is that organic?
We stock both organic and pasture raised chicken. Click here to learn more about our farmers and their produce.
Are your eggs organic?
Our Egganic eggs are not "certified organic" but exceed organic standards especially in relation to stocking rates and welfare. Egganic uses certified organic grains and the eggs are produced by healthy hens that roam pristine paddocks free of chemicals and are able to graze and forage the pasture as they please. What is cow, pig and lamb sharing?
Our 'Sharing’ programs are designed around the old-fashioned community approach to consuming an entire animal - from nose to tail. It enables a group of people to buy a share of an entire body and to distribute the meat, fat and bone amongst everyone. Click to learn more about our cow share , pig share and lamb shares.
Do you support co-ops? How do I set one up?
We do support Co-ops and if you would like to know more please contact us at [email protected]
What seasoning do you use in your burgers, sausages etc.?
We only ever use organic herbs and spices and Himalayan salt. We never use artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives.
Why do you freeze meat?
Our beef, pork, lamb and chicken arrive direct from the abattoir and are all cut, packed and snap frozen fresh in our large purpose built freezer. We do this as we use no preservatives ever and by freezing fresh the integrity, quality and flavour of the meat is naturally preserved.
What's the best way to defrost meat?
The best way if you have time is to defrost the meat in the fridge over a few days. If you don’t have time to do that you can do it in a clean sink or tub, place meat still in packaging in tub and fill with cold water. Large pieces will take longer than sausages for example. It is important to keep an eye on these as you want to make sure the meat stays cold.
Why are your eggs "pasture raised" and not "free range"?
Egganic has a stocking rate of 300 hens per hectare far below the organic standard of 1500 hens per hectare and way below the free range standard of 10,000 hens per hectare. Our hens are free to roam pasture paddocks 24/7 grazing and foraging for bugs and grubs. Our hens therefore obtain significant benefit from the pasture paddocks. Unfortunately most free range farms and some organic farms are stocked at such a high stocking rates that the hens gain no significant benefit from the pasture or foraging but are still considered to be free range. The term "free range" does not meet our core principle of ethical and sustainable farming which is why we use the term "pasture raised".
Do they pass the CluckAR test?
Yes at 300 hens per hectare we do very well on the CluckAR test.
Do you only sell meat?
No. We also sell a wide range of organic and wild-crafted herbs, spices, condiments, sauces, cheeses, butter and yoghurts.
