How a share works
Our free range, pasture raised pig shares are about embracing a nose to tail way of eating that sees zero waste and the entire animal celebrated. It's a more sustainable way of eating and a sustainable way to shop. Buying this way means your farmer isn't left scratching their head about what to do with the leftovers once the most popular cuts are sold—so thank you in advance if you decide to purchase.
- Your pork will fit easily into a good-sized freezer with two drawers. The volume of the box it will be delivered to you in is 32L.
- You don't need to worry about finding another person to share with—we've done that for you.
- You can have your share delivered to your area or you can pick from our farm in Dungog if you're local or visiting the area.
- You can add extra items from our online store to your order if you haven't reached the free delivery threshold or you prefer doing a bulk order. We believe chest freezers are a brilliant thing if you have the space, especially as food security becomes more important.
About the pork
Our free range pasture raised pork is grown by our friends Andrew and Therese Hearne at Near River Produce on the NSW mid-north coast (inland from Port Macquarie).
They grow, Berkshire and Wessex Saddleback heritage breeds, prized for their flavour and intramuscular fat, attained by slower growth rates than many commodity breeds used in other systems. At times this can lead to a greater fat content than recent cultural training has condition society to, though as any chef will tell you, the fat is where all the flavour is.
Like us they raise their animals in a low stress environment and when it comes to processing the animals, they personally load and transport their animals for their one bad day further ensuring minimal stress prior to processing.
